Pitt is a state-affiliated school located in Oakland, Pittsburgh. In 1787, Pitt was founded under the name “Western University of Pennsylvania”, changing its name to “University of Pittsburgh” in 1908. Today Pitt remains one of the most prominent public schools in the Northeast and enrolls just over 19,000 undergraduate students at its Pittsburgh campus. Famous alumni include legendary college and NFL running back Tony Dorsett, television pioneer Vladimir Kosmich Zworykin, Shark Tank personality Mark Cuban, and TV legend Mr. (Fred) Rogers.
Pitt’s engineering school is the Swanson School of Engineering. The Swanson School enrolls nearly 4000 students and offers a wide variety of majors including both Civil and Environmental Engineering. Pitt’s award-winning ASCE Chapter has existed for more than 70 years and has over 130 members, more than half of the entire department.
